The Ghost at The Old Colby Farm
Interview Contact: Lillian Robbins
My grandmother Lillian Robbins is cheerful, and very much loved in her old age. The one that thing I'll always remember about my grandmother is that she always had a story to tell anyone who comes in. Here's one:
"In 1935, we moved into the old Colby Farm. One evening we were sitting in the living room. Your grandfather got up and went into the kitchen; while he was out of the room, I saw a white ghost in the corner. I hollered, and started to cry. Then Bob came in.
"What's the matter with you Lil, you crazy?"
"No, I'm not, but if you seen what I did, you would be scared too!"
We went to bed that night, but I couldn't sleep. I looked out the door of the room. At the bottom of the stairs I saw that same ghost walking back and forth. I got up and hollered.
"Who are you? What do you want?!"
My hollering woke up Bob.
"Oh my land, Lil!"
Bob went down the hall to where Uncle Elisha was, and Bob told Elisha that the house was haunted. The next day we moved out.
About a week before we even saw the ghost, Bob and Uncle Elisha found a grave. They cleaned it off and stood the stone up right. They thought that maybe the ghost that they saw was the person in the grave, and that it came to thank them. But we moved out anyway.
