THE DEER ISLE BOYS: CREST RESEARCH TRIP - October, 2007

On October 28th, thirteen students and three teachers from Deer Isle-Stonington High School will embark on a research trip to the Herreshoff Museum in Bristol, Rhode Island and Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, Connecticut with culminating events at the New York Yacht Club which will include a luncheon, tour of the club, model room and library followed by a dinner at the Club.

These students were part of the Crest class at Deer Isle-Stonington High School for the 2007 to 2008 school year. These particular students were focusing their efforts on researching the Deer Isle Boys who were the crew members of the Defender, 1895 and the Columbia, 1899 America's Cup winners. Their goals were to document descendants of the original crews, research and chronicle the lives of the men that served aboard these yachts. They were also comparing and contrasting the America's Cup challenges of 1895 and 1899 with those of today.
